Over to Canet and the lagoon
Canet-en-Roussillon beach, extended by the Canet lagoon and its birdlife, is the sea lung of Perpignan locals. People meet there for a swim, an aperitif facing the harbour sailboats or a seaside bike ride. The trail along the lagoon to the salt pans offers, at sunset, a pink-and-blue setting you remember long after the first date.
Côte Vermeille and Collioure
To the south, the Côte Vermeille unfolds a chain of ports clinging to the Pyrenees: Collioure with its bell tower in the water, Port-Vendres, Banyuls and its vineyard slopes plunging into the Mediterranean. For a romantic getaway by train or car, it is the ideal place: you stroll, share an anchoiade, almost paint the landscape, as Matisse and Derain did in their day.
Facing Canigou and along the Têt
To the north-west, Mount Canigou, the symbolic peak of Catalonia, rises above the Roussillon plain. You can admire its silhouette from Serrat d’en Vaquer, a hill just south of the city, or from the banks of the Têt. On Lyad, members from Perpignan share their favourite hikes and beaches; it is up to you to find someone to lace up boots or lay out a beach towel.
